“ Best fried chicken I've ever had. Reviews are mixed, but we were definitely there on a good day. The only complaint, if you can even call it that, would be the corn bread being a little dry. But it was still so good. Staff was so friendly and attentive. Place is small but service is quick making the wait not too bad. We waited about 30 minutes, were told we'd have an hour wait, either way the wait is worth it!! ”

“ Alright, it's been nearly 4 years since I was at Willie Mae's, but what can tell you is that it was memorable!! I have told my husband more than once that I would buy a plane ticket to NOLA from Pittsburgh just to eat at Willie Mae's and then come right back home. I recommend it to all my friends when they go to visit New Orleans. When we were getting close to the restaurant we thought for sure we were in the wrong place. It's in a neighborhood and doesn't feel like a place where a restaurant will be and then you see the huge line and know you are there! We got there an hour before closing and it took us that long to get in the door. The hostess assured us that so long as you are in line before closing, you will be served. Now, I'm not a big fried chicken fan per se, but this was something special. We absolutely LOVED our chicken and the cornbread, sweet potato fries, and mac and cheese were all so good! You know sometimes you eat at a place like this and the chicken is good but the sides are kinda just meh? Nooootttt here! Everything was delicious! We loved it all, but the chicken was certainly the star of the show. The restaurant itself is very homey and cozy and we got to sit with a couple of ladies visiting NOLA as well. It was a pleasure to get to know them. Don't sleep on this place. Just go. You won't regret it!! ”

“ Willie Mae's Scotch House has a long list of accolades and thousands of Yelp reviews. So, what is there left to add? First, the basics: 1.) The food I had during my visit was fiyah. The chicken skin and exterior batter was satisfyingly crunchy, and the chicken itself was still flavorful and moist. 2.) I didn't wait in a long line, and service was satisfactory. As a Mississippi native, I think what Willie Mae's does best is serve as a great ambassador for Louisiana and Mississippi cuisine for the masses of people who will never eat our legendary and regionally famous gas station chicken, juke joint chicken, tailgate chicken, grocery store chicken, or my mom's immaculate and perfectly seasoned chicken that's fried in the true masterpiece: a cast iron skillet. Nom nom. I have my own opinion on whose fried chicken is the best (my mom's, lol), but this American Classic is definitely worth the hype! ”

“ My boyfriend and I were visiting NOLA and his brother told us that Willie Mae's Scotch House is a MUST! Oh boy, he was not wrong. Willie Mae's did not disappoint. The restaurant is not that big. We came here on a Saturday and there was a wait. You would scan the QR code outside to join the waitlist. There are a few benches and tables to sit at to wait. We did wait for some time, but let me tell you... the food was worth the wait. My boyfriend and I shared the chicken plate with Red Beans and Rice, 2 cornbread muffins, and a side of fried okra. Wow, when we took that first bite of the chicken... it was so juicy and flavorful!! The red beans and rice were amazing, it complimented the chicken very well. The cornbread was delicious and fluffy. The fried okra was good too, but I did wish that it came with a dipping sauce. The service was great too! Would totally recommend Willie Mae's Scotch House to whoever visiting NOLA. ”

“ I dont normally leave reviews this brief, but suffice to say this: This place completely ruined fried chicken for me, not because it was bad, au contraire, it is because it will never be this good anywhere else. Every bite or whiff of fried chicken you ever have for the rest of your life will leave you feeling hollow and betrayed. Youll become engulfed in a deep chasm of ennui, and nothing will satiate the existential void growing in your soul until you return. Nothing. ”

“ If you are contemplating coming here, don't! Just come - if you come with all your luggages, go for it. They are use to it! Staff is very nice and they are so accommodating. There was no wait and food came out extremely fast. I know people talk about the Chicken - it is delicious, seasoned and cooked to perfection. But, some people need to get talking about the Fried Catfish! one of the best fried Catfish I have every had. I would order again - I loved it. Fried Okra did not disappoint, Mac and cheese good - red beans and rice, good. really not complaints about any of the food. I understand why it is certainly a MUST try spot and I was extremely lucky to go when the wait wasn't too crazy like reviews say. This was my last meal in NOLA and it was perfect. ”

“ Their 3-piece dark plate is the best U.S. style fried chicken I've ever had. Not overhyped at all, and definitely worth the wait. Even though the 3-piece came with wing, drumstick, and thigh, none of the pieces were dry and ALL of them were juicy and crispy and perfect even though there were pretty big size discrepancies. If you're savvy, you can try to put yourself on their waitlist beforehand (QR code on the sign outside the restaurant) so you can minimize your waiting time. We waited ~20-30 minutes for a party of 4 on a Friday around 11. Portions are large and service is friendly. Sides were all solid and a bit on the salty side - we got the fried okra, red beans, and green beans; out of those, the red beans was probably the winner for me, but I'm sure you can't go wrong with their menu. The chicken sandwich and cornbread were also really great, but the fried chicken was the star of the show! Will definitely be back if I'm in the area again! Pro-tip: the plates are huge and we found that 3-piece entrees + sides along with a sandwich could probably comfortably feed 5 people, and properly stuffed 4. To avoid the plate sharing fee you can just order extra sides instead of an entree per person ”

“ 4 1/2 stars. Definitely the bonafide king of American fried chicken, no doubt about it. Is it better than Korean fried chicken? I'm not 100% sure about that, but for what it was, the experience of the culture, the friendly staff and the amazing Treme neighborhood surrounding it, I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting. We stayed at the Marriott right at the Canal Street and the French Quarter area so we walked about a mile and a half here. I would only recommend this in the daytime, as New Orleans is definitely not a walk around random neighborhoods at night kind of city. Trust me on this if you read nothing else of this review. We walked here in the day, and it was absolutely lovely. We loved the old architecture and the friendly locals who knew we were headed to Willie Mays scotch house for chicken. It felt like a pilgrimage. It opens at 11am with that said I would get there near opening time. We got there at 11:30 AM and there was already a 20 minute wait. By the time we left at 1 PM there is easily 50 people outside waiting with a full restaurant inside. I think they are only open till 5 PM and closed on Sundays. The fried chicken was incredible! Def the best chicken breast on the bone I've had, so juicy. And those wings!!! I'm drooling thinking about it. The reason it's not five stars across the board is I thought the sides were very mediocre. We got green beans, which came with rice and gravy. The rice and the green beans were cold and the gravy was definitely nothing to write home about. The next side we got were the butter beans that they recommend so highly. I thought this was just OK. They weren't very warm and they were a bit overly spiced and the beans weren't as creamy as I thought they would be. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CORNBREAD MUFFINS! Do not sleep on these. With all the salty food, these with some butter were magical. It's in a really cool old building and the server staff was AMAZING. Candy was our server and she was crazy on it and very friendly. You cannot miss this place on your trip to Nola. ”

“ I had Willie Mae's for Take-Out last fall. The local friend of many generations to NOLA who told me to get it said they had the best fried chicken. Unfortunately, I don't eat chicken. But with that, they do have fish and I got that and I was hooked. So this visit to NOLA, I took an Uber to dine in person. Mid-day, party of one, I did not have to wait at all. The restrooms were to be desired, but the dining room is clean and the staff was hospitable. Their fried fish and the batter on it is the perfect combo of saltiness, crispness, freshness and good NOLA food. A side of red beans and rice, a glass of sweetened ice tea and I was smitten with my private dining experience. Delish! Willie Mae, you are worth leaving the French Quarter for. I will be back when I am next in town in the future. ”
